Build Solar Panel

DIY aficionados with a green heart can have a field day building solar panels. As oil reserves dwindle and carbon emissions soar, we can all do our share to help the environment by sourcing our electricity from renewable, clean power sources such as solar. Before setting about to build a solar panel, let's have a look at a non-technical description of it, provided by a solar power enthusiast named Mike Davis: "It is basically a box that holds an array of solar cells. Solar cells are the things that do the actual work of turning sunlight into electricity. However, it takes a lot of cells to make a meaningful amount of power, and they are very fragile, so the individual cells are assembled into panels. The panels hold enough cells to make a useful amount of power and protect the cells from the elements". Sounds simple, right? And it is, to a certain extent.

In order to build solar panel structures, the first thing to consider is geographical location. Those living in the northern hemisphere should install their solar panels facing south and vice-versa if they live in the southern hemisphere. When the roof doesn't face south, the problem can be solved by attaching the panels to poles installed in a location that does.

You also have to decide which type of solar panel you're going to build. You can build a solar panel to heat water for your home or pool so that the sun radiation is converted into heat. Or you can build a photovoltaic panel, which converts light into electricity. The electricity produced by the latter is stored in a battery and then used as a power source for the building.

The next step is to actually build your solar panel. A quick look online and you'll find plenty of options in solar panel kits. These include instructions and all the equipment needed, and although you may need to enjoy a bit of DIY, you don't need to be a fully-fledged technician to build solar panel structures.Visit Energy Refuge to read more about how to build solar panel structures and to make you own solar power generator.
