Go Green
Severe environmental threats have contributed to destruction of natural resources that are the basis of our survival. Global warming and environmental pollution have been main contributing factors for the problem. When you go green you make changes in the way you do certain things and this reduces the carbon footprint. Depleting resources will be saved from total extinction while natural products are used at home and in businesses.
There are several methods you can go green and this can begin in your daily activities and routine. Earth Day and Environment Day have been created and celebrated to honor the earth’s natural resources. This helps in spreading awareness about the depleting resources and the magnitude of the problem. Businesses have begun to make their own contributions by constructing green buildings, harnessing the sun’s energy and using it to run industries and light up buildings. Homeowners are adding to the go green movement in several ways by recycling their garbage like paper, bottles and cans. They are using compact fluorescent light bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs. Energy efficient home appliances are installed. Thermostat settings are lowered to save energy.
Harvesting rain water is one very easy way to go green that everyone can resort to. By setting up a roof drain and collecting the water in barrels, we can use the water in gardens, lawns, to wash cars, and other purposes. Industries use the recycled items like paper and cans and create handmade paper, greeting cards, cardboard boxes, etc. Paper shopping bags are commonly used today. Supermarkets now sell recycled bags and encourage using them instead of using plastic bags.
We go green when we make it a habit to reduce fuel consumption by walking, cycling or using public transportation. Apart from being good exercise, walking and cycling reduces air pollution. If you must drive, investing in a hybrid car will help you in the go green movement. By going green you are doing the environment and yourself a great favor.
