World Cup Green Goal
Green Goal is an initiative to conserve energy and promote alternative energy awareness at the World Cup. Game tickets are being accepted as one day travel passes for all local public transportation, journalists get to ride free on rail lines throughout the whole event, and all the trash collected will be recycled if possible.
According to the FIFA site, "The three biggest solar power facilities in the world of football will be operational in Kaiserslautern, Dortmund and Nuremberg. The total power requirement, forecast to be some 13 million KWh, will be provided as "clean electricity" by EnBW from certified hydro-electric facilities." This program is expected to teach energy awareness and save countless gallons of water, recycle thousands of tons of trash, and show that the use of alternative energy can still power a world wide sport.
