Baseball and being green

I like baseball. And there are times when I actually read the Press Release for the sportscasters and writers.

Here is what it said in one release:

Going Green: The Indians organization is taking Progressive Field green…In addition to the upper deck Solar Panels, the club is recycling all CARDBOARD, PLASTICS, ALUMINUM CANS & MIXED PAPER used at the ballpark…Both the home and visiting clubhouses area also participating in the program for the first time…All vended cups used at Progressive Field are corn-starch based and decompose after 30 days after usage.

So how much trash is left at the end of each game that will not get recycled or will not decompose?

And more importantly, how much energy is getting recovered? I am looking at their list of recycling and I see that glass is missing. This is probably because they do not sell anything in glass.

They even have a press release about their recycling and their solar panels. They power their 400 TVs with solar power.

Very cool.

The best part about all this is that I am an Indians’ fan and they won last night.
