Brazil and the environment

First of all, sorry for the irregularity of my blogs of late but I’m currently on vacation in Brazil.

Still, I have been pleasantly surprised to see how much talk there is about the environment and related topics such as organic farming, which is not bad at all for a country with so many social problems to look after as well.

The other day they had on prime TV an article about hydrogen cars, which made it look like it may become a reality here any time in the near future – remember this is the country where ethanol cars have been used since the 1980s.

Last night I saw an interview with a woman scientist who is developing what she calls ‘edible plastic’. She’s nearly there, the challenge now is to make it competitive for commercialization.

I will resume my normal rhythm of work next week, meanwhile will tell you more from my station in the ecologically correct town of Florinópolis in the south of Brazil, one of three island capitals in the country (the other two are Vitória and São Luis).
