California Raises Renewable Energy Requirement

California once again races ahead in the renewable energy revolution. Governor Jerry Brown has signed into law a mandate that requires utilities to purchase 33% of clean energy by 2020. It is the highest mandate of its kind in the United States.

According to Tree Hugger, the American Wind Energy Association reacted by saying that “public officials have decided to create thousands more jobs for Californians – jobs in manufacturing, construction, operations and maintenance, and other areas. This action is pro-business and pro-California.”

Energy Refuge welcomes the initiative. As we have reported before, public policy and political will are key to promoting renewable, clean energy as the market needs incentives to invest confidently.
