Commercial partnership to ease switch to LED

Dialight's StreetSENSE LED street light
Dialight, a New Jersey LED lighting technology company, announced that it has partnered with Chicago-based Veolia Environmental Services to offer high-intensity discharge (HID) and street light fixture and lamp recycling. The service is being offered to commercial facilities and municipalities that make the switch to Dialight’s more energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly LED lighting solutions.

LED is more energy-efficient than traditional lighting, but the latter need to be disposed of carefully. Most contain hazardous materials such as mercury that not only make them an environmental liability, but also expose the company or municipality to the risk of penalty for improper handling and disposal.

“LEDs are a much ‘greener’ option than traditional HID and fluorescent fixtures,” said Roy Burton, Dialight’s Group Chief Executive. “By adding this recycling option, we’re able to enhance the environmental benefits changing over to LEDs and relieve our customers of the burden in figuring out how they’re going to deal with the discarded fixtures.”

Veolia is one of the largest commercial recyclers of lamps and ballasts in the world. Its provides environmentally-compliant solutions in water management, waste services, energy management, and passenger transportation.
