The internet really is a territory of limitless possibilities. Almost on a daily basis we can find something that amazes and inspires us.
Springwise, a website dedicated to spreading the word on new entrepreneurial ideas, has an article on Do The Bright Thing, which certainly has amazed me.
The Dutch website invests 10 per cent of every purchase costumers make through it in solar energy. Users need to sign up with the website before going on to choose from more than one million products sourced from more than 500 online retailers.
Do The Right Thing calculates how much energy each product required for production, which is listed next to the product’s price. With this information in hand, the website can then invest in solar panels, using a combination of affiliate marketing revenue and bank loans, to produce an amount of solar energy that matches the creation of the product being bought.
The products do not cost more because of that, so shoppers can invest in alternative energy without spending an extra cent. 60 days later they will get an email informing them the details of the investment. The money also goes to developing countries through the Fair Climate Fund (five per cent of the total).
The video below gives more details about Do The Bright Thing’s concept.
