I, like many Americans, would love to be able to stash away my car and in its place travel on something more environmentally friendly (not to mention less gasoline hungry). Unfortunately my distance to the workplace keeps me “chained†to the old gas-guzzler. Enter Ultra Motor and their new electric bike called the A2B. This new vehicle is designed for urban or suburban commutes and offers unassisted power on demand for up to 20 miles at a cruising speed of 20mph.
What’s more is that since its top speed is below 30mph, it is categorized as a bicycle rather than a scooter or moped. That means no special license required to operate.
Ultra Motor’s design team is in Germany, and manufacturing is in Taiwan. The company’s global headquarters are located in London with the US operation is based in San Francisco, California. Ultra Motor will offers two other electric bikes called the Europa and the Portia.
The A2B is expected to be available in September for around $2500. The 73-pound bike is constructed of an aluminum frame and features full suspension based on current mountain bike design. Powering the bike will be a 500-watt motor fueled by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
