Since Sunday July 1st, European consumers are by law being given information on arrangements to be made to dispose of the old equipment so it can be recycled according to the European Union legislation. Producers and distributors are required to make arrangements for disposing of appliances and gadgets, including those made by other companies. The new measure has instantly created an industry worth US$800m a year, although a complete list of approved treatment facilities is not ready yet and consumer awareness of the new legislation remains low.
