Google announced on Thursday (April 7) that it has agreed to make its first clean energy project investment in Europe. The company will be injecting US$5 million into a solar photovoltaic plant in Germany.
According to Google’s European Policy blog, the transaction still requires the formal approval of the German authorities and is subject to other customary closing conditions.
The solar plant is located in Brandenburg an der Havel near Berlin and occupies 47 hectares of a former Russian military training ground. It is one of the largest in Germany with a peak capacity of 18.65MWp. Google says it will provide clean energy to more than 5,000 households in the area.
The investment is a joint venture between Google and the German private equity company Capital Stage, which is experienced in the German PV and renewable energy market. 70% of the solar modules installed in Bradenburg will come from German manufacturers.

Ethan K. is an idiot and mis-quoted “facts” from the DOE website!! (I couldn’t find where to comment to his 4th grade blog-style writing!) He stated that most of our imported oil doesn’t come from the Middle East and that only 3 of the top 10 that do provide to the U.S. were Middle eastern countries.
FALSE! He should take his own advice and look up and write accurate information, it was right at his fingertips! Or does he like lying? The TOP supplier is OPEC! Idiot! That’s made up of mostly Middle Eastern countries consisting of Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates & Venezuela! Hmmm, lotsa Middle Eastern countries just involved in OPEC. Canada, Ethan K’s top of the list actually provides LESS THAN HALF the oil to the U.S. as OPEC does!
Idiot!
Patrick,
Thanks for the input. I’ll tell you what I’ll do…If you write up a blog entry about Ethan’s article, I will post it here for you and give you credit for the article. You can clear up the facts and we’ll credit you as having done it. If you are interested, please email me at webmaster [at] energyrefuge.com. Thanks!
Tom
