It seems like the financial world is becoming greener. Ethical fund sales, which includes green funds, through FundsNetwork (UK) rose by 83% from January to April 2007, compared with the same period in 2006. The figures were published by the Investment Management Association and they showed ethical funds under management had passed the £5bn mark by the end of March.
Haven’t we always referred to money as something green anyway? And greener it must become.
Although we should always take ‘ethical’ news from the corporate world with a pinch of salt, the fact that investors are looking to invest in green funds should be welcome. The business world only understands the language of profit and if eco-sustainability becomes more financially attractive, it will support it. I personally don’t mind their motivation. As long as they boycott polluting, shady companies, it’s fine by me.
