The weekend is upon is and here is some reading to keep you inspired over the next couple of days. By the way, as the temperatures get lower and the temptation to turn up the heat to the maxium increases, remember to go for a walk to warm yourself up naturally. It’s better for the health and for the planet. Wrap yourself up.
I came across this interesting company that specializes in mobile solar power and it is called – you guessed it – Mobile Solar Power, the self-appointed leader in the field of transportable solar generator. It is just that, really, movable units in different sizes to adapt to different needs. Besides, because they are not attached to the ground, they don’t require permits and inspections. Nice.
Now, the USA today reported recently that “demand for renewable energy is outstripping supply, pushing up prices and raising the specter that some states may not meet clean-energy mandates.Behind the shortage are the growing number of states requiring utilities to include clean energy in their power mix, as well as surging demand from big businesses. By 2010, clean-energy demand will outpace generation by at least 37% unless a rush of projects is built, says a report due out next week from the National Renewable Energy Lab.
“Under laws in 25 states, clean energy — such as wind, solar and biomass — must constitute up to 30% of a utility’s energy portfolio in five to 15 years. In 2003, just 10 states had such requirements. Also, growing concerns about power plants’ global-warming emissions have led consumers and businesses to boost clean-energy purchases by 46% a year since 2003. Much of that is fueled by corporations, which have increased their green power purchases twenty-fivefold since 2001, the Environmental Protection Agency says. ‘Demand is growing faster than people expected,’ says NREL senior analyst Lori Bird.”
What this means is that we need more enterpreneurs with proper financial support for their start-ups to cater for such growing demand for clean energy. It is good news that demand is high, but with no supplies the risk of failure is high. That would be a real shame, a wasted opportunity. (Full article)
Now, did you know that orange peels can be converted into cellulosic ethanol? According to the USDA-ARS Citrus and Subtropical Products Laboratory’s Bill Widmer, the Florida oranje juice industry “has the potential to provide up to 60 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol for Sunshine State residents“.
“Where the process stands right now is we can break apart the complex carbohydrates and liquefy the citrus waste. Basically what we end up with is a four to five percent fermented stream — or citrus beer. I use that term ‘beer’ loosely. You definitely would not want to drink that stuff.”
OK, the taste might be foul but that sounds like great news anyway. Let’s drink to that.
Our company manufactures a series of solar powered generators with water pumping and purifying capabilities along with many other options. We offer a variety of mobile power stations to fit any need.
