Lisa Margonelli, author of Oil on the Brain: Petroleum’s Long, Strange Trip to Your Tank wrote about how one firm makes manufacturing plants more efficient, by making sure steam power is being used effectively at The Atlantic Monthly
One of the staggering facts from the article is “that domestic industry could use 19 percent less energy than it does today.” That translates into $50 billion. That’s not chump change.
And since many uses of manufacturing energy happen during peak energy usage time periods, the dirtiest power plants would be turned off first.
Reducing energy use is the easiest form of alternative energy to implement.
