New York area non-profits have another four days to apply for Green Mountain Energy Company’s program whereby they could be the recipient of a solar array system. Applications can be submitted online via Green Mountain’s Sun Club website by Monday, October 31st.
“Green Mountain Energy Company’s mission is to change the way power is made,†said John Holtz, director, Eastern Region, Green Mountain Energy Company. “Each solar energy system we donate through the New York chapter of the Sun Club helps us achieve that mission, give back to the local community and enables our customers to make an even greater difference by further supporting the development of solar power in New York.â€
The Sun Club is a program whereby Green Mountain’s customers can choose to support solar energy by contributing an additional $5 on their monthly Con Edison electricity bill. The idea is to promote solar power and help non-profits to reduce their carbon footprints and increase their sustainability credentials.
Despite the name, donations do not have to be for solar only; SunClub will consider applicants looking to install other alternative energy technologies that generate pollution-free electricity or heat water.
The club started in 2002 with Green Mountain’s Texas Sun Club chapter, which has installed nearly 400 kW of new solar power on the rooftops of qualifying campuses and non-profits. That equals to 3.8 million miles not driven.
