I am going to either call 1 888 567 8688 or go to this website and opt out of all the pre-approved mail I get. But first, I think it is best that I measure how much mail I get, so that I know how many acres of forestland I am saving. (And as far as I can tell, a mature acre of forest well managed can be used to make 10 – 15 tons of paper. That’s a lot of paper.) Here is what I am going to do:
I am going to weigh my junk mail every day. I think I should also count how many pieces of junk mail I get every day as well. If I do this for two weeks, I should have some good baseline information.
After two weeks, I will go to the Credit Bureaus’ opt out website and see what happens with my mail. I realize it will take some time, probably a month, and I will report my progress as time goes by.
There is another opt-out site that I will contact after this experiment is over.
What a great idea! Would love to know if any of the numbers or sites you used worked.
