Renewable energy, India

The Daily Times of Pakistan reports that Al Gore has been in India launching the local wing of The Climate Project and he took the opportunity tell Indians they can lead the way in renewables: “India has proven its capability in sectors like information technology and can be a leader in the world in developing new renewable technologies to combat climate change”, said Gore, who won an Oscar for his documentary on global warming, An Inconvenient Truth.

The United States still are the world’s biggest polluter, with more than 20 per cent of the world’s carbon emissions. China is catching up fast with 16 per cent, or second in the ranking. India accounts for 6 per cent, which puts it in the top 5.

Speaking of renewables, New York City will be home to a conference on marine renewable energy between 17 and 18 April. For those interested in this area, it will be a good opportunity to catch up on what’s going on in this field.
