Robert Newman’s editorial

This editorial moved me with its candor and starkness. He posits that capitalism and saving the planet are at odds with each other. I cannot find a chink in his armor, but I want to. I want capitalism to survive because I feel with capitalism comes simple motivations for actions- and simple, straightforward motivations are the ones that work best. They spur activity. Complex motivations are great for novels and your psychologist, but most are one word long: “sex”, “things”, “food”, “status”.

I do not see us ready for a two word motivation: “save planet.”

  • I know a two letter word that people are ready for:
“save money”!!! That is a benefit of saving the environment. Wake up people! Alternative energy is good for the environment and our wallets.
