Saving Heating Costs: Out of the Closet

I’ve been keeping my thermostat low. 63 degrees low while I am at work and in the evenings. I am getting used to it. But I really haven’t been living at 63 since there has been enough sunlight during the day to keep my house at around 68 – 72.

But it is getting colder now. 40s in Virginia is cold. So I actually did spend last night at 63 degrees.

I could not get up in the morning and get ready at 63. So I cranked the heat up to 68. Heat started pouring forth from the registers and it started to feel livable.

So, there I am getting ready for work, open up my bedroom closet and it was cold in there. I wasn’t heating the closet. The square feet I was heating was smaller than it could have been. The smaller the area one heats, everything else being equal, the easier and cheaper it is to heat.

So now I am going to keep my closet door closed (which is really a good idea since that is where I am hiding Christmas presents.)
