Scotland Sets Itself Ambitious Renewable Energy Target

The Scottish first minister said his country wants to be completely powered with renewable energy by 2025.

Alex Salmond was speaking ahead of a renewable energy conference. He said he would like his country to become a net exporter of clean energy as the country has “unrivalled green energy resources”.

Wind, wave and tidal power will be promoted with current plans for these type of renewable energy. Offshore wind farms in particular will play an important role in achieving this goal.

However, the country would still produce dirty energy based on coal and nuclear power to export to the rest of the UK. That makes the actual production of energy 63% renewable. Currently the country has a 3 GW renewable energy capacity but it has the potential to increase that figure to 63 GW.
