Searching For Ways To Cut Emissions

A new search engine was launched earlier this week and it was designed to help internet users be kind to the environment.

Envirosearch.org is a new online search service by Carbonfund.org. Powered by Bing and with revenues generated by Yahoo! Ads, it supports international conservation projects such as reforestation efforts and wildlife preservation.

“Envirosearch.org proves once again that protecting our environment and doing the things we enjoy and need to do can go hand in hand,” said Eric Carlson, president of Carbonfund.org. The organization will work alongside other entities such as Environmental Defense Fund, National Wildlife Federation, and Environmental Media Association.

Deforestation is a major source of carbon emissions, especially in countries like Brazil and Indonesia, where cattle ranching and palm oil plantations are decimating rainforests. It accounts for 20 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions globally, besides destroying habitats, eroding the soil and polluting water. Therefore supporting reforestation and forest preservation efforts is crucial to mitigate emissions.

Envirosearch.org says it will also sponsor clean energy projects, besides other environmental programs.
