Perhaps the term ‘alternative energy’, as applied to renewable energy sources, will have to be revised some time in the not-so-distant future. That’s because clean energy such as solar is going mainstream.
According to an Associated Press report, despite representing a small fraction of global electricity generation, solar power holds great promise as costs are falling rapidly.
It said solar industry insiders believe solar power will be able to compete with fossil fuels, even with smaller solar subsidies reduced by two thirds in 2016.
In the US alone there are 30,000 MW worth of solar projects awaiting to be approved; even if only half of that is eventually built, it would increase current capacity fivefold.
What do you think of this article? Are falling prices the push that solar power needed?
