The 27th Cambridge Film Festival in the UK, which takes place between July 5 and 15, has included a programme called Cinecology focusing on films that deal with environmental issues. According to the organizers,
“With environmental issues reaching the headlines with increasing regularity, the state of the planet is at the top of the agenda and looks set to stay. This 21st-century pre-occupation is also becoming the starting point for many films – not just from independent filmmakers but increasingly from mainstream too. The 27th Cambridge Film Festival reflects this shift in direction, with eco-titles appearing right through the festival programme, including in New Features, the UK Premiere of Universal’s Evan Almighty (starring Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman), in Microcinema, the World Premiere of UK filmmaker Sarah Turner’s Ecology, as well as in Cinecology – The Environment on Film. This dedicated environmental strand, which comprises 11 documentaries and feature films, includes one of the latest crop of theatrical feature documentaries Arctic Tale and the UK Premiere of Julian Lennon’s production Whale Dreamers.”
Congratulations to the organization of the festival. Let’s hope lots of other venues will follow their example and use the powerful medium of cinema to raise green conscience. For further information on the program and synopsises of the films, please visit the festival website.
Have a great weekend.
