If you’re like us, the first thing that comes to mind when you think “environmentally friendly†may not be a tire manufacturer. However, that may soon change if your opinion is based upon Japan’s Yokohama. Their plan proposes some 25 acres of new forest across 18 of their worldwide facilities (that’s 500,000 trees for you number crunchers out there).
Calling this effort the Forever Forest campaign, Yokohama plans to offset some of the environmental implications of industry through the trees which not only provide carbon dioxide to oxygen conversion but also aesthetic improvements to surrounding communities.
As a bonus, the trees offer up a shady gathering area for employees in the event of an evacuation. The campaign has been off to a great start with some 30,000 trees already having been earthed at their Hiratsuka plant in Japan.
