Follow our blogger/editor, Antonio, on a six-day trip to Brazil for a firsthand look at the world´s greatest biodiversity, found in the Amazon rainforest, and to become familiar with local policies to reach national targets on deforestation and climate change. Follow him at http://vimeo.com/energyrefuge and also on EnergyRefuge’s Twitter.
Join him as he provides you with opportunities to experience Brazil’s national climate change and Amazon rainforest conservation initiatives. He will have media access to key officials that will provide advance insights into the COP10 and COP16 meetings (the COP10 meeting on biodiversity in Nagoya, Japan and the COP16 climate change meeting in Cancun, Mexico).
The trip is July 18-23, 2010, and the tentative agenda includes:
· Meetings with key scientific teams monitoring deforestation and climate change initiatives throughout Brazil
· Interview with Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira, and other environmental agency officials
· Working lunch with Ambassador Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, Brazil’s chief climate change negotiator, for a preview on Brazil’s positions leading into upcoming summits on biodiversity (COP10) and climate change (COP16)
· Visits to sustainable development initiatives throughout the Amazon region, including natural gas exploration and sustainable forest management cooperatives
The trip is organized by Apex Brasil, the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, on behalf of the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of Brazil (SECOM), which supports Apex in this project.
