I’m no specialist in global politics related to climate change but I can easily conclude that the talks in Bali that are coming to a close on Friday this week are ending on an impasse, with the United States, as usual, flexing its bullish muscles and now Canada following in its heavy footsteps. It is scandalous and totally shortsighted that with the future of the planet at stake the most powerful and most polluting country in the world behave in such manner.
The International Herald Tribune wrote that that “Ban Ki Moon, the UN secretary general, on Tuesday urged delegates to act quickly. The situation is so desperately serious that any delay could push us past the tipping point, beyond which the ecological, financial and human costs would increase dramatically´ he said.”
Again such morosity and lack of urgency is yet another reminder that it is up to us, civil society, to embrace renewable energy and the green lifestyle so that we make a point with our deeds. Governments will sooner or latter have to follow suit.
