Just over a week ago, the largest solar park in New England was inaugurated by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, when he switched on Westford Solar Park, a 4.5 MW solar farm in Westford, developed by Cathartes Private Investments and Nexamp.
The park, spreads across 22 acres and features 14,000 panels. The projected power generation over its lifetime is 150 GWh of energy.
Westford Solar Park is connected to National Grid’s distribution system. The utility will be purchasing the clean electricity generated by the park through Massachusetts’ net-metering law. Cathartes can also sell renewable energy certificates that it can sell to utilities and other suppliers that need to fulfil a quota of renewable energy under the state’s law.
Boston.com has an in-depth article describing a visit to Westford Solar Park. The article notes that Massachusetts now is ahead of California as a leader in alternative energy, thanks to Governor Deval Patrick’s policies such as the Massachusetts Green Communities Act.
