We’ve Moved To a Green Server

Energy Refuge was off-line for a few days for a good cause. We’d been having trouble with our servers and migrated to a new, green webhosting company called HostGator.

Hostgator is one of the top 10 largest web hosting companies and is home to more than 4,000,000 domains.

And why is it green? Because its shared and reseller servers are wind powered. The company purchases certified renewable energy credits which represents 130% of the electricity used to both power and cool its shared and reseller servers.

The wind credits are generated in Texas, which is where HostGator is. The company says that its environmental commitment is tantamount to removing 444 cars from the road a year, powering 321 homes with clean energy for a year, saving 5,654 barrels of oil and protecting 551 acres of forest a year.
